This weekend streaming from both ends of the earth.
The Australian Ultimate Championships as the EUF Spring Tour will take place this weekend. ULTI.TV will be present at both events.
This upcoming weekend promises to be an important moment in the world of Ultimate. Both the Australian Ultimate Championships (AUC) and the kickoff of the European Club Series with the Spring Tour are scheduled on the calendar.
For our Australian mates, the season ends after AUC, a tournament like the European EUCF. Following an entire season of competition, it will become clear after this weekend which club teams will emerge as the strongest in the open and women's divisions. It's an exciting time for them, without a doubt.
On the other side of the globe, a similar level of excitement prevails, but the Spring Tour marks just the beginning of the season for Europeans. There are eight different locations in Europe where the spring tours will take place, five of these locations will be streamed by robo cams or VEO cams and one of them human-ULTI.TV-powered. With determination, they embark on the journey, aiming to earn points to qualify for EUCF.
A globally shared experience
What both continents will share are the experiences of a tournament. In both parts of the world, teams will arrive slightly weary after a journey just a tad too long. The evening before the tournament starts, a brief team meeting takes place. Despite fatigue from after a week of work or study, everyone sits at the edge of their seats as coaches and captains discuss the goals for the weekend. At the end of the meeting, everyone retires to bed just in time and with much positive energy.
At 06:30, alarms go off, and everyone shuffles with bleary eyes to breakfast. Overfilled frisbee bags hang from players shoulders, and cleats dangle from their handles. The coffee is barely drinkable, and even the heartiest eaters struggle to finish their plates. Then, it's off to the fields, when you arrive there is always that one teammate who inevitably forgot their cleats, and the warm-up begins. The first ten minutes may echo with giggles and yawns, but after that, the atmosphere shifts, and everyone switches to 'game mode.'
The only difference that will play a role in the different parts of the world is that Europeans hope for sunny weather and dread the possibility of whirlwinds and rain on the field, while Australians hope it won't get too hot.
As the matches commence, players and teams inhabit a world that's hard for outsiders to comprehend. Yet, on the other side of the world, the same experience unfolds. That's something special.
Despite the significant physical distance, ULTI.TV facilitates the connection of these worlds. Coverage of the Australian Ultimate Championships as wel as coverage of the Spring Tour, opens the door to understanding and learning between two seemingly different yet remarkably similar worlds.
Upon returning home, appearing tired at work on Monday morning, you attempt to explain to your favorite colleague how remarkable your weekend was. You knew beforehand it would likely fail, but you try anyway. Undoubtedly, you're experiencing a post-tournament dip. For European players returning from the Spring Tour after this weekend and the Aussies from AUC there's good news: it's not over yet. Following this weekend, you can delve into each other’s worlds. Open your laptop, be inspired by each other, and learn from the ultimate world on the other side of the globe. Marvel at Australian mullets, learn, and be inspired by the Australian playing style and the other way around. Allow yourself to be surprised by incredible French mustaches and highlights from Spring Tour 2024.
And at last, to all players embarking on this beautiful weekend, good luck!
