🌎🥏 The World Ultimate Finals of the Americas/Japan

No European or Oceanic finalists this time under—an all-Americas + Japan showdown for the world titles in USA vs the Colombia, Canada and Japan in each division.

It’s been an incredible week at WUC 2024 in the Gold Coast, full of surprises and unforgettable moments. If you want to dive into all the results, check them out here.

Throughout the tournament, a free-to-watch game was streamed daily on YouTube often spotlighted Australia’s journey—until their Friday knockout ended their medal chances. The free-to-watch games were complemented by an evening show that captured the vibes on site.

While the final three matches will be available behind a paywall, they will be accessible on VOD soon on the Olympic Channel. This arrangement allows all finalists to relive the final moments of the competition with zero/none costs or the need for a subscription.

The story of the World Games 2025

Alongside the competition, the tournament was crucial for World Games qualification points where all divisions count. Below you can see the final results which countries are in (the order can still be brought into question), knocking out GBR on a tie with Germany. We love the World Games format, which is a mixed division-only event broadcasted in full (as it was in 2022) and free-to-watch, making it a fan favourite.

The host nation is always guaranteed a spot for a mixed squad in the World Games, and this year China will compete against the world's top Ultimate teams. Historically, China has struggled, and even after this Worlds sending teams in each division, they are not ranked in the top 21 globally. However, their growing player base suggests promising potential for future improvement, indicating that China is on the rise in the Ultimate scene.

All eyes on Colombia

While the USA faces strong competition in every division for their gold medals, the Colombian women’s team has a significant chance this year. They’ve already secured a key victory over the US in the power pools, though such wins don’t always guarantee later success. Additionally, Colombia’s confidence is bolstered by their club team’s gold medal performance at WUCC 2022, giving them momentum as they move through the tournament.

Hive Ultimate captured the energy of the underdog Colombia women's team, creating a short but powerful video on their defensive prowess, perfectly encapsulating the determination and grit that defines their journey to the finals.

As the finals approach, attention is firmly (at least from me personally) on these underdogs who have consistently exceeded expectations.

One of the standout aspects of this year’s coverage has been the contribution of various content creators, bringing fans closer to the action:

• Better Everyday Coaching provided daily insights into each division, breaking down games and strategies with detailed posts that helped contextualise each day’s developments. Their coverage has been crucial for those following closely across multiple divisions, giving both expert analysis and emotional commentary.

• Meanwhile, Irish Hogi followed his partner down under and recorded a wealth of games that will soon be available for fans. His content, accessible via his Linktree, offers a chance to catch up on all the games that didn’t make the live streams.

• Manuela Cardenas also brought the tournament to life with vibrant stories and engaging social media content, sharing the on-ground experience and the emotional highs and lows of the competition. Her posts resonated with fans, offering glimpses behind the scenes.

In the end, this tournament has been as much about the creators and community as it has been about the competition, with each content contributor playing a vital role in making WUC 2024 accessible, exciting, and unforgettable.
