Spring Invite is here and we've got you covered
The days are getting longer and European frisbee returns with four amazing events!
It’s been a long, cold winter but European ultimate is back with a vengeance this weekend! 🎉🎉🎉
As part of the new European Ultimate Federation structure, the Spring Invite Series is a number of tournaments on single weekend across four European cities. The winning teams at each event will earn a wildcard entry to the European Championship Finals in Wroclaw this September, so the stakes are high right out of the gate.
Each event will host different divisions but you, yes YOU, can spend some time with your friends at Ulti.TV who’ll be bringing you coverage from two of the events, the big one in Padova and another in Leuven. Here’s what’s going on in each of the cities:
Leuven 🇧🇪: Open
Wrocław 🇵🇱: Mixed
London 🇬🇧: Women’s
Padova 🇮🇹: Mixed / Open / Women’s
In Leuven we’ll see some of Europe’s best open teams for the last few seasons facing off. The EUCF 2021 bronze medallists, Gentle, will be there, as will Bad Skid from Germany and plenty of other strong teams from across Europe vying for that spot in Wroclaw in October.
Padova has all three divisions with some fascinating teams. EUCF 2022 mixed semi-finalists Disconnection are competing alongside Lemmings and GOLD, who both played in Caorle as well, and Honeymoon, a Mooncatchers mixed team that we’ll be keeping a close eye on. There are seven teams that played at EUCF in an incredibly strong women’s division (Box, 3SB, Troubles, East Block, Panthers, Cheetahs and Discobolo) and the open division will see more elite teams battling for the win: 3SB, MUC, FAB, Cota Rica and Freespeed are just a handful of those that will be in contention.
We won’t be seeing any games from Wroclaw or London this weekend, but the Polish mixed division features elite teams from recent years (last year’s EUCF bronze winners Left Overs, for example) but also the return of two teams we didn’t see much of last year: Flow, from Poland, and Hässliche Erdferkel, from Germany. The top teams in the UK will be fighting against Dublin Gravity and Belgian team LUV in London so there’s sure to be some fascinating results there too.
So the first Spring Invite series is the first opportunity this season for teams to break away and take their first steps on the path to European glory! Which six teams do you think will make it? Let us know!
We’ll see you all weekend as we bring you the latest on all of this.
